Canada's most talented Margot Austin wears many hats. She is a stylist, decorator and senior design editor for Style at Home, a magazine read by 1.6 million people per month.
This darling girl's room was designed by Austin. She combines blues, lavender and white to create a cool, yet inviting color palette. The crystal chandelier, floral throw pillow and painted floral motif above the bed {wall decals from Ikea} gives the space a feminine feel.
A pair of three-drawer sidetables in turquoise flank the bed and are a brilliant addition. The key here is to have the table's color be a few shades darker than the wall {Benjamin Moore's Bird's Egg} so that there is some contrast. The silver table lamp coordinates beautifully with the bedframe.
Here Austin maximizes the room's vertical space by using two tall cabinets that provide additional storage. The desk is beautifully positioned in between to balance the look. The desk chair is slipcovered in a darling floral print that is repeated in the bed and chair pillows.
I looove Margot Austin's designs!!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this! Haven't seen this space before. The desk area is of course my favorite...looks so oranized but at the same time is very relaxing and inviting. thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE! The colors are so beautiful! Practical AND gorgeous...my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI have the same color nightstands!
ReplyDeleteThe room is lovely, though I have noticed a trend to give little girls and boys big beds, and am not really down with it. I know it looks better in a room if you have the space, and it's something to grow into. But a small body in a large bed does not seem cozy enough.

I would not have dared put those colors together, but they look fab. Great point you made, that the table needs to be a bit darker than the wall.
ReplyDeleteI just love this! What a wonderful idea to have the night stand be a couple shades darker than the wall, I'll have to remember this! Janell
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun room! I love the turquiose and purples together and I wish I had those bookcases on either side of the desk. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe stencil above the bed is stunning!
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty.
ReplyDeletehey, thanks for the nice post and comments! A couple of notes: the wall colour is Ben Moore's Bird's Egg -- a real fave. The flowers on the wall above the bed are just wall decals from IKEA -- easy peasy. And lastly, the room is actually not for a "little" girl but a 17-year-old who is close to 6 ft tall (this as a reply to Visual Vamp's comment about the size of the bed)
ReplyDeleteThank you Margot for the details regarding your lovely design. Much appreciated. xo
ReplyDeleteI shoot for Style At Home all the time. Love Margot! She's so talented!
ReplyDeleteCristin, I just saw these images over on Erin's blog. This room is absolutely heavenly! Fabulous find!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE these images.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where the fabric for the decorative pillows and desk chair were purchased?
