I was first introduced to LA-based designer, Ruthie Sommers’ work in the pages of Domino, Traditional Home and House Beautiful. I admire her ability to mix period styles effortlessly and create inviting spaces that layer pattern, texture & color.
Recently, Ruthie’s LA home was featured in Lonny’s July/August issue and the article reminded me how much I like her design aesthetic. In the above image, I love how she paired abstract art with fresco-inspired wallpaper by de Gournay.
Ruthie’s daughter’s room has evolved from a nursery that was originally featured in Domino’s October 2008 issue. Today a vintage Lilly Pulitzer daybed is placed where the crib once stood. However, the beautiful hand-painted Chinoiserie mural in Pink Peony from Pratt & Lambert remains.
Some of my favorite rooms Ruthie has designed have been for little girls. Here’s a sampling from her portfolio:

Oh how I love that blue and green bedroom! I'm designing a blue and green room for my 9-year old right now and that room is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI adore that wallpaper in the third room. I wish she took down the artwork and add two table lamps instead. :) She is really talented when it comes to mixing styles. Love the first and second images!

Beautiful rooms! Love the wallpapered one, and all that pink makes my heart go pitter patter. One of my boys better give me a granddaughter someday so I can finally go nuts with the pink and girly. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteShe does great rooms. Just the right mix of tradition and whimsy.

Wow, these rooms are stunning! I especially love the first image: the wall colour, mirror, and those 2 storage bins on the floor. The green and blue bedroom is so lovely too. My girls need a desk in their rooms, but the configuration of the space is a bit weird, have to figure that out.
