Have you had your identity stolen? I’ve heard it’s a nightmare. To reduce your risk of identity theft, it’s recommended that we shred all sensitive documents. But, when is a document “sensitive?” In general, we should shred documents that contain the following:
- Account numbers {medical, financial, credit card}
- Birth date
- Home address
- Social security number
- Passwords / PINs
- Signatures
- Credit card applications
Paper shredders come in all shapes, sizes and price ranges, but I’ve never seen one like this before. It requires no electricity, comes in yummy hues of grey or turquoise and features a streamline design that’s attractive enough to be displayed on your desktop. I didn’t think it was possible, but Poketo currently has a stylish hand-cranked paper shredder available for $45. I’m digging it for home office use!
All this talk about paper makes me think that we really need to reduce the amount we use. One way to cut down on the amount of paper in your home is to reduce the amount of mail you receive. Here are some suggestions:
- Pay your bills online
- Read books & magazines online {might get some controversy on this one!}
Happy Organizing & Happy Friday!
I just pinned it! How lovely and useful. :)
